A Day With The Children

A friend organized a day with the children from an orphanage house in Gombak yesterday. He hosted it at his place and invited friends to come and help. After preparing the gift bags and ensuring the breakfast were ready, we went to pick up the children from their house in a few cars.

Coloring contest. Everyone received a goodie bag consisting of a stationery set, a box of color pencil, an exercise book and a bath towel

I think everyone of us felt a huge responsibility to ensure all the children enjoyed themselves. My friends' children and the children from the neighbourhood also joined in the fun. None of my friends have the voice to handle the big group of children so it is up to this trainer to use her trainer's voice to give instructions to them hehehehe... I hope they won't think auntie Sue so 'garang'.

The youngest girl in the group.

Look at these young faces. Whenever I look at little girls, I always wonder how their life would be. Would they have a good life? Would they find love? Would someone break their heart? Would they find a loving man to share their life? Que sera, sera. I hope they'll have the strength to become a good person and live a fulfilling life.

After we sent them back.

The caretaker hinted that it would be nice if we can do this every weekend. We can't afford to make that commitment? While discussing about future programs with the children, everyone was OK with the idea of once every 2-3 months. Maybe we can arrange some activities more often but no one dares to make a promise. It is sad but that is reality. I enjoyed meeting old friends during the event so hopefully that is incentive enough to meet more often.

The Holiday

I'm having one of the best holiday of my life... right here in KL. I have been to my mom's place two weeks ago when I went for an outstation trip in JB and mom was here just about a week ago, so I decided to spend my CNY holiday here alone... or so I thought. But it has been a really nice holiday so far. I haven't got the chance to visit friends during Raya holiday last time because I was away for almost two weeks so I took this chance to visit some of them. We had a good laugh when I said I couldn't come during Raya so here I am during Raya Cina. I have been on leave since Friday actually so holiday starts early for me :) Apart from visiting friends, there's the rejuvenating spa breakaway yesterday.

Thousands of people at KLCC

For today, it's very fitting for us to watch 'The Holiday' at KLCC during our holiday :) It was very, very entertaining and you should go see it with your girlfriends. I saw many girlfriends group in the cineplex and I went with one of my girlfriend too. Apart from the annoying jaga-tiket girl, everything was perfect. We wanted to go in a bit early to go the ladies but she said we couldn’t, not until 11.35 when the movie starts at 11.40. At 11.30, a different girl stood there and she allowed us to go in. And then again, after the movie we walked half way to the ladies when the same girl saw us with few other people and tried to stop us again. For God's sake, we're going to the toilet lah. We just ignored her and after we came out from the ladies, we wanted to go to the exit like we're supposed to do and saw a guy and asked where can we get out and he said it is OK for us to go out at the nearest exit which is the entrance actually. So 'over' lah that girl.

Away from crowds
Anyway, back to the movie...

And then, there's another kind of love: the cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. Its called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert. Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about our stories, those of us who fall in love alone? We are the victims of the one sided affair. We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones, the walking wounded.

If you're broken hearted, or have been before, or have experienced unrequited love, you'd feel like it was you. Take your pick. Cameron Diaz (Amanda) or Kate Winslet (Iris). And now that you're rational and sensible, you'd say, "No, no, no... don't do that. Don't let him do that to you." You'd cheer when Ethan got punched and Jasper got thrown out of the door. You'd celebrate sensibility and common sense. I like it when Iris said, "You're supposed to be the leading lady in your own life, for God's sake!" Are you the leading lady? Or the best friend? Or the bit*ch?

When we get out from the cinema, we saw thousands of people from many nationality, all under one roof... with interesting characters, almost all carrying a digicam or videocam, 'posing maut' at the escalator, in front of the still-closed shop, with the mannequin, and all over the place. We didn't go out to the park. I don't think we can see anything but people everywhere. We had a nice and quiet lunch at Kelantan Delights, far from the noisy food court. We really cleaned our plates and the bowl of tomyam too. Please forgive me for being such an ignorant Malaysian for this is the first time I tried Lompat Tikam. It was delightfully tantalizing but I think more coconut syrup would make it even more sinful. It was my friend who reminded me to take the photos of the food or else you can only see the photos of empty plates here :)

Oh I'd like to mention this too. Do you know it took me only 20 minutes to get to KLCC from my place. Can you believe that? On a normal day and a good traffic, it would probably take me 45 minutes. 20 minutes must be the time shown on housing developers' sales brochure for this area and this must be a very good time for them to test their claims no matter if the project is at ulu Shah Alam or ulu Kajang somewhere hahaha.... I really wish we can have this kind of holiday often. Sometimes, when we go for holidays elsewhere, we're quite rushed to go and see everything and all the places we want to visit. This time, I can come back to my comfortable apartment after a tiring but interesting and memorable day.

I'm A Javanese Princess

I'm a Javanese princess....

.... for half a day. You don't think I have traced my roots to centuries old keraton somewhere huh? :D (Some explanation on keraton.)

Any lady can become one when they spend the day at Dewi Sri Spa at Plaza Damas. I went there with my colleague yesterday. We entered the place at 10.30 in the morning and left at 3; feeling rejuvenated from the top-to-toe pampering, a bit sleepy from the relaxing ambience and soothing traditional music, and hungry because they only provide snack for the whole 4-hour session. Luckily, I have taken 'nasi lemak' for breakfast.

I have to take some time to figure out how to wear the disposable panties given. Any way I put it on, I don't feel comfortable at all. It was the g-string style hehehe... I wonder if Javanese princess in the olden days wear something similar during their body pampering session. I tried to cover myself up while lying down before the therapist can cover me up with the blankets that she commented whether this is my first time. No; it is not but I will never be comfortable exposing my body to stranger no matter how many times I went for a massage or spa.

My therapist was a very young looking girl but don't underestimate her strength and her massage techniques. I received normal comments whenever I go for massage i.e. I'd stiffen up my body (in expectation of pain or feeling ticklish hehehe...) Anyway, I started to feel more relax afterwards because the massage was good and not overly painful like my normal experience with Indonesian traditional massage where I'll feel like laughing and crying at the same time.

They have everything in one room so it was very convenient. The room was big and nicely done. I wish I had brought my camera there. But if I do, then I will not be relaxing but thinking of when and where I should take photos so I can put it up in my blog :) Therefore, you just have to imagine or better still, try them out. For ladies only. No; I did not get any commission for this.

Steam followed after massage, and then lulur session. My colleague and I actually expected we will come out with yellowish body and a strong herbal smell after the session but everything was done just right. We're not yellow and didn't smell like the spice market :) The water for herbal bath in the bathtub was a little too hot to my liking but the therapist quickly adjusted it. And then, off to the shower. I feel so wicked during the body smoke session afterwards... wearing a sarong (kemban style), sitting on a stool with hole, fanning myself with mengkuang leaf fan provided so the smoke didn't get to my eyes and face. So, so wicked. I've done this before during other spa sessions elsewhere but it still felt funny. If you don't know what I'm talking about, too bad hehehe...

I dozed off a few times during my hair crème bath and pedicure session. How nice being waited hand and foot or in this case head and foot once in a while. The nice thing about this place is they don't rush the session to accommodate more clients. We took the 4-hours package but it was slightly longer than 4 hours by the time we finished. I have been to a place where the therapist is rushing and I can feel it and ended up not feeling relaxed at all. That was the last time I went there.

That was a really nice treat for us after what felt like an endless training sessions. We have set our training schedule until June and it was very pack. Maybe my colleague and I would give ourselves spa treat again after another quarter of heavy trainings.

Redecorating Project

I still remember how it was when I first moved in my current apartment. Every hour I was obsessed with finding cheap, functional furniture to make it liveable as soon as possible. I'd stop at every furniture shop I see, I'd go to IKEA and DIY section at Giant, Carrefour, Tesco and Jusco. I'd lug everything I bought up the stairs to my 3rd floor apartment if I couldn't get my brother to help.

I was being very practical then. Who knows how long I'd be renting here. I didn't expect it to be long. I always feel I'll be going somewhere soon... like working overseas or travel around the world. Yeah right! Anyway, everything must be easy to disposed and unassemble if necessary. It has been almost three years and I'm still here. I have accummulated lots and lots of junk along the way. Now I wonder how do I get rid of them.

I'm starting to get bored with my decorations and furniture arrangements. I think probably the time is right because I have no training for two weeks from now. There'll be CNY holiday soon so I'll have the time if I really want to do something. Can't do anything drastic though. I think I'll find a red curtain, buy some white paint or something. An interesting project to do when I'm not busy training or going outstation :) I found this interesting website, 'Rental Decorating Digest', while googling for some ideas about redecorating.

When A Man Loves A Woman...

Some people say this...

"When a man loves a woman, he'd do anything for her."

I wonder if that is true.
