Weird Dreams

Come afternoon, my body started to burn up again. Sigh! So I have not fully recovered from my fever :( It felt cold so I wrap myself up, wore socks, get under the blanket and dozed off. I remember dreaming of so many things.

I was trapped in a building, going up through the stairs trying to find my way out. Imagine an emergency staircase or a staircase at a shopping complex parking lot. At each floor, I would stop, open the door to the floor and take a peek inside. Then I would close the door upon concluding that there is no way out there and proceed to the next floor. I don't remember finding a way out at all.

Then I dreamt about a weird modern small town. There is one big apartment area at one end where everyone lives, a big field in the center of the town and shops around the field. People in the town only drives one-way and there is only one lane road. Early one morning everyone got stuck because a bus full of tourist came from the wrong way and refuse to budge. Everyone in the town drives and that morning they can't go very far from their apartment because of the bus. Everyone were shouting and honking until one smart fella decided to use the other route from the apartment and everyone else start to follow.

Then the weirdest of all, my camera snapped into two like a cream cracker biscuit. The thing is, I have been planning to find another digital camera but still reviewing my choices. Seems like my semiconscious mind can't wait to get a new one huh.

My fever has cooled down a bit now. I woke up feeling hot so I throw all my cover and socks away. Who bothers reading about me and my fever? No one hehe :) But as my blog is my witness to my life, blog I will.

Happy Merdeka Day

I went to take this photo at a school nearby after buying my breakfast this morning.

Happy 49th Merdeka celebration to all. It is a cool, hazy morning today and I am feeling much better. Thank God a good night sleep is all I need. Actually, it is not a 'good night' at all as I kept waking up but the most important thing, I'm better now :)

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Trivia: How many times Tunku shouted 'Merdeka' 49 years ago? Answer above.

Merdeka Nite? I'm Burning Up

I painstakingly finish my training for the day and the last for the month. I felt so weak today but I brave all the questions and walking up and down the class checking my participant's exercise on their monitor screen. It could be because of the 18 days training I have to conduct this month. Our monthly target is only 8 days. Imagine standing all day, not enough water to drink or you'll keep excusing yourself to go to the ladies and talking till your mouth's dry. Multiply the effect 18 days. I also felt a bit chilly during the later part of the day. My initial thought, could be because it rained a bit today. Anyway, tomorrow is a public holiday and I'm taking leave on Friday so I can have all the rest I need and do any thing I want to do this weekend.

Only when I reach home I realize I'm coming down with something. All my joints are feeling painful and my skin is very sensitive to touch. Oh oh I'm coming down with something and I don't want to be sick during the holiday. I changed clothes and wrap myself up and I can feel my throat getting more and more sore as I swallowed and my body burning up.

I doze of at 8 p.m., woke up 1 hour later and situation doesn't seem to improve :( Not that I want to go out and celebrate Merdeka but I wish I'm not sick. Am I less patriotic for not wishing to join Merdeka celebration? If patriotism is determined by whether you do this or that or fly the flag, then why don't we also based it on the flag size. This morning on my way to work I can see a sorry excuse of a flag draped over Bangunan UMNO (PWTC). In comparison, a 4-storey school nearby my apartment hangs a very huge flag that covers the whole building and SIME Darby also draped a very huge flag on one side of the building at Jln Raja Laut. Anyway, that is a different story.

I checked TV schedule and there doesn't seem to be anything interesting tonight. So here I am, blogging while lying down, lots of pillows to support my back with laptop on my lap. Sigh! I'm feeling a bit hungry but no mood to eat anything. Drinking lots of water is supposed to be good for me but going to the loo is such a chore. And the water is cold. I suppose I better stop here before I rant on and on about my fever. Pray for my good health. Thanks :)

Vista and Office 2007 Preview - Part 1

I went to Windows Vista and Office 2007 preview about 2 weeks ago. The targeted audience is mainly HR people. Since our training center is part of HR department, I was selected to preview the software. The consultant figured that if HR people thought it is a good software, they can persuade the IT and Finance department people to support and purchase it.

We were first introduced to Office 2007 applications by the consultant. The layout looked different. What do you expect? This is from Microsoft. Of course they’re going to change the layout. Gone are the toolbars. In it's place, they called it ribbons. Icons are placed on the ribbons and you have to scroll up, down, right to look at all the icons on the ribbon.

He then continued telling the audience about some features that has always been there but never used by many normal users. Most of them are common to me; some are not available in Office 2000 and below or hidden. I asked him about a feature that I have seen in other software before but highlighted in the 2007 version and I want to know if it is available in the older version because I sure would have noticed it if it is on the Menu. He said it is available in the older version and I have to take his word for it. Later I double check and couldn't find Comparing Document Side By Side on Office 2000 Menu but the Help mentioned that Track Changes could be used to perform this function. Not similar at all.

I mentioned how Office likes to hide Menus that we would miss a command if we did not expand the hidden Menu using the arrow. He pointed that now Microsoft has solved that problem with the use of ribbons. "Yeah it took them so long to solve it", I remarked and he laughed while highlighting this to the Microsoft representatives also present during the preview. The thing is, I have met many users who didn't notice the arrowhead pointing down on the Menu indicating that you can click on it to expand and reveal more options.

While some of the audiences go ooohhh and aaaaahhh at some of the function and features he showed, I'm not impressed. It just shows how normal users knew very little tricks on using Office applications and a newer, better, more-tricks version does not give additional value to them. All the while, the consultant always refers to Office 2003 features as his 'older' version. The thing is, I have not seen Office 2003 installed on any PC in my organization. Why pay for the license when the older version can do the job? Besides, we're going the OpenOffice.org direction now.

During tea break, the consultant shared a table with me. Probably he wants to find out why I'm resistant to Office 2007. I'm not resistant. I'm just not impress. He praises the new Office's ability to convert document to PDF document and I told him OpenOffice has that feature since many moons ago. Don't get me wrong. After getting use to the new UI, it is probably interesting to use it with more colorful icon and automatic formatting on table or instant charting options for example, but you are practically doing the same old thing with a new toy. What's the point? Doesn't make much economic sense.

Wedding Of The Year

I was watching CSI on NTV7 when mom called and reminded me to watch the wedding of the year on TV3. "Yeah mom, I'll watch it later." It is THE event of the year. You might choose not to watch it but you can't comment when other people are giving their comments.

I switched channel at 9 p.m. and discovered I've missed the 'walking-in' part. The dais looks so grand and fresh and the bride radiant and sweet. The groom looks confident as always. He holds the bride's hand while she is taking her seat before taking the seat himself. While the do'a was recited, both the bride and groom were seen breathing heavily probably due to nervousness.

The ceremony then continues with the menepung tawar ceremony led by HRH Sultan of Pahang, HRH Sultan Terengganu, Datuk K's parent and Siti's parents. Short and sweet. All the while, I feel as if Datuk K is not feeling very comfortable on his seat. The seat really didn't look very comfortable at all but Siti looked poise on hers. A friend remarked they have a high paid consultant to do the job. But yeah the consultants don't have to sit up there, with tight samping and probably a keris.

During the wedding dinner, both the bride and groom are seated separately. In between, HRH Sultan Pahang is seated. No suap-menyuap session lah nampaknyer :) The menu sounded appetizing but the poor VVIPs have to eat them very very politely. Hmmm... what a waste of food. The guest was entertained by traditional dances performed by a group of kids (they looked so cute) and songs sang by local and Indonesian artiste during dinner.

While Kris Dayanti was interviewed (she was said to be Siti's confidante), she revealed some stories like Siti putting 'love' as Datuk K's name in her handphone and how before she went for umrah, Siti mentioned her mom was not so happy with her choice. These facts were not revealed during 'Tiada Lagi Rahsia' program aired on TV3 for three consecutive weeks before the nikah ceremony.

The two person not invited or invited but can't attend the ceremony are Mawi and Jamal Abdillah. Mawi has his own show live and Jamal Abdillah was invited to sing on his show.

The ceremony continued with cake cutting ceremony. The happy couple walked slowly towards the cake, made slower due to Siti's ball gown. So no suap-menyuap session during dinner but they did with the cake. Siti's parents were then invited to cut pulut kuning to commemorate their 38th wedding anniversary. Siti proceed to sing a song penned by herself for her dear hubby and the guest before the ceremony ends.

I like her bersanding dress better than her ballgown.

So that's it. The event that everyone has been waiting for or can't wait for it to end so we can concentrate on other events like Merdeka celebration for example. There is another issue there. Should Merdeka be celebrated with one concert after another? But that's another story.

How Un-Malaysian Am I?

I got this from Francis. I'm less Un-Malaysian than you are hehehe...

Congratulations Sue, you are 50% not Malaysian.

That means you're as Malaysian as...

Lovely, Bright and Windy Saturday Morning

This morning is a lovely morning for many reasons. It's a bright and windy Saturday morning, a weekend, and a weekend where I don't have outstation weekend training or having to prepare for an outstation trip. I love traveling but I also love a lazy weekend morning at home after a hectic schedule. Nothing beats home sweet home :)

Photo taken at Desaru many months back. The beach is nothing to be shouted about but the sky is lovely no matter how dirty the ground gets.

I had a bad experience in Ipoh early this week. The hotel corridor and room has a strong musty smell, the balcony is full of bird droppings and the shower curtain looks like it has blood splattered on it. Actually it was the rust from the shower curtain ring. Probably someone folds it when the rings are wet and it got to the curtain. The moment I checked into the room, I felt the same way when it is the beginning of the semester and you don't like your new dorm room. When that happens, I'd normally left my things in a safe place and go find my friends.

But I don't have friends there so I left my things in the room, went out to find the place where I have to conduct the training tomorrow so I don't have any problem looking for it the next morning and find dinner. It occurred to me to request for a change of room but the hassle of going down to the reception counter and the thought that I won't be spending too much time in it anyway, I'll just bear with it for 2 nights. Luckily I don't have plan to extend my stay in Ipoh.

At the training center, the toilet there is not very clean. While taking tea break with the participants, we talk about our bad toilet experience. One of them remarked there are no water source at all in one of the Australian airport toilets and we go "iiieeee... don't they wash their hands?" Sanitized wet tissue is also not available. Just the normal toilet roll. So I go, "iiieeee... don't marry an Australian then" and everyone laughed. Suddenly I was reminded of my quiz results here. Hahahaha... rotfl.

I have another Ipoh training session next quarter but luckily my boss scraped my Ipoh trip. Ipoh participants will have to go to Penang for their training and I got to do more Penang trips :) Even the caterer in Ipoh was the worst caterer we have ever had. The food was OK but even with one participant unable to make it, we don't have enough food. And we had sirap for afternoon tea break with our kuih. No caterer in their right mind would prepare cold drinks for tea break. I have not looked at the menu and the arrangement with our Admin staff here but luckily we have tea on our second day tea break.

The only nice thing I bring back from Ipoh is some very sweet and juicy pomelo. My colleagues in the office love it. I'm not a big fan of pomelo so I only bought three. One for me, one for office and one for my mom. Now I wish I had bought more.

A really good news for me, I'll be going to Kuching again in the next quarter *huge grin* I love my trip there. I can probably go kayaking again. Yes! Yes! Yes! :D OK... enough rambling on a lovely, bright and windy Saturday morning.

Are We Merdeka Yet???

Things we read in the news and hear our politicians speak...

1) MAS and AirAsia should buck-up and avoid flight delays, as this would inconvenience the tourists.
2) A clean toilet went hand-in-hand with developing the tourism industry
3) The cabbies should do this and this and don't do that and that to portray a good image to the tourist.
4) We should extend the operating hours of night clubs in the city for the benefit of the tourist.
...and many more similar sentences in the past.

My BIG question, didn't we as a Malaysian deserves a reliable transportation system, a clean toilet, a safe country, a polite and smiling service provider?

Is it our culture to save the best for other people? Do you remember when your mom save the best cookies for guests during festive season and let you have the almost burnt or "not perfect" cookies; or when the best china, table cover and cutleries are only used when there is guest in the house; or when you are asked to pick up everything in the living room and dump it into your room when a guest wants to drop by on short notice?

I have always mumbled under my breath when I have to clean up because the guest is coming. Why be so pretentious? If messy is how you live, then messy it is to your guest. If the house is messy because there are little kids who can never keep their toys neat and at the designated place, I'm sure the guest would understand. As a sign of respect, at least make sure there is a decent place for the guest to sit and chat but to clear up and ensure everything is spick and span only when the guest is around is just hollow.

Coming back to the issue of our politician and their desire to make everything nice to the tourist, let's get into the real Merdeka spirit and free ourselves from the idea that we are here to serve the orang putih (though now we have tourist of many colors other than putih). Let's serve us the Malaysians who has to live in this country, grow up and make a living here. Let us have a good transportation system, let us have clean toilet for us, let us have a clean and safe country for us.

We acknowledge tourism is a big industry contributing to our economy but if we have a happy Malaysian living in Malaysia, the happy Malaysians can make the tourist happy too and ensure the continuation of income from tourism to the economy.

A Man In My Life???

You Don't Need a Man, but You Want One!

You like having a guy in your life, and overall, you prefer not to be single.
You won't go out with a guy out of desperation.. you rather be alone.
However, when you're single, you do tend to obsess a little over dating.
Because no matter how good your single life is, it's better with a great guy around.

You Should Date An Australian!

You're a down to earth, outdoorsy kind of girl
And you need a guy who can keep up with your adventures
A rugged Austrailian guy is just your style
Better start learning how to surf!

You're Almost Ready to Get Married, But Not Quite

No doubt that you've warmed up to the idea of marriage and life long love
You just aren't quite ready to follow up with your desires, yet.
You may be a bit young, or a bit commitment phobic... give it time.
Concentrate on guys who you can imagine being with next year. Forever can wait.

Hmmm... I have never been obsessed (a little or a lot) over dating. But having someone who shares our passion sure would double the fun. But Australian??? Hehehehe... oh the slang...

Sweet Memories

The breathtaking sceneries along the river, the crystal clear water, the gentle breeze, the rustle of the bamboo leaves, the serenity...

The hospitality, the friendship, the smile...

I also managed to see the roundabout with the longest name :)

Some not so sweet memories...
  • The attack of the bed bug on both my elbows. I'm still scratching.
  • Accidentally burnt the sleeves of my new kebaya top :( Lousy hotel iron

Today's Adventure... Kuching Kayaking

My whole body is screaming in pain. My fingers, shoulders, torso and legs are crying for a good massage. But I'd never trade the experience for anything else.

The beginning of the journey starts here.

This is where we begin.

Look... my feet... my feet... proof that I was really there :D

We have 4 kayaks and I'm lucky I can rely on my guide, Izam, to ensure I have a smooth ride. The water is shallow in some parts and he has to get down to push our kayak through.

The whole group consists of Francis, Izam, a sweet Chinese lady who wants to remain annonymous and a wonderful German couple, Karl Heinz and Karla with their two sons Sebastian and Alex.

Alex has taken a keen interest on bamboo and here he is seen trying to post pose as a warrior. A very sweet and cute warrior :) Karla can be seen at the background, enjoying the sun after taking a dip and loving her first durian experience. We can't say the same for all the men in the family though :D

I'm hoping to see the more traditional bridges but this would do for now.

An interesting looking tree. Francis has shown the photo of this tree in his blog. How I envy him for being able to do this whenever he fancies them.

Our ending point. How I wish it would never end.

This is a view I would remember always. I was the last to get out from the water. Wish I can stay longer and kayak further. At that time I still couldn't feel the aching parts all over my body :D

I might write more on this when my body feels better. For now this will do since I can't wait to share this wonderful experience in my blog.

More on this adventure here. Francis promises me more stories and photos to come.

Meoww...

Yahoooo... yaahoooo... hehehehe... Not this yahoo but jumping up and down yahoooo :)

There's a wireless connection in my hotel room. It is not very stable but I can still go online whenever I want to. And since I'll be here until Thursday, I definitely need my Internet connection. It is a good thing too I brought my personal laptop instead of office laptop. Too many applications not available at my office laptop.

From my hotel room

My journey today didn't start off very well simply because I have a gnawing feeling that I forgot something. Think as I may, I couldn't remember what it is. I still couldn't. The security check at the airport was OK. They only requested me to open my laptop bag. Thank God I was not asked to open my almost bursting luggage bag. Probably because it already looked so stuffed they don't want to be responsible for holding people up because I have to repacked everything hehehe...

I had airport nasi lemak for brunch. At RM7.50 per plate, with portion similar to the normal RM1.00 nasi lemak, I thought they would have at least kept the rice warm. It's cold. It is a good thing the sambal, the most important element for a nasi lemak, is good by normal standard. The teh tarik is acceptable too.

Near my table, a toddler was throwing tantrum because her mom and grandmother had their own plate for lunch and she didn't. I was wondering why they didn't bring anything to keep the little girl amused. After a while I saw her playing with slices of cucumber. She rubbed the table clean with it and then rubbed her face with the cucumber.

She looked so cute playing happily with the cucumber slices, getting her first facial treatment at such a tender age. I can't claim to be good at parenting but I do know cucumber that has been used as a tablecloth is dirty and shouldn't get anywhere near the little girl's face. My brother probably would say I'm too clean, that is why I get allergies but I still think that cucumber is not good for her at all. I wonder why her mom and grandma didn't do anything. Probably feeling relief the girl is playing quietly on her own.

I'm happy to be getting a window seat on the plane and happier because I had the whole row of seat to myself. We were taxiing for a long time because there're three planes taking off at almost the same time and a plane was also taxiing after landing. Before taking off, the planes stopped again to allow another plane to land. Suddenly KLIA seemed like a very busy airport.

It was cloudy at KLIA but after reaching a certain altitude, I was in awe at the vast blue sky and cottony white clouds. I think I haven’t seen a blue sky for quite some time due to the unpredictable weather on the ground and also the haze for the pastfew days. For a few minutes, I can enjoy the beautiful view. I managed to capture some photos of the sky. It didn’t do the view justice but it is quite decent to be shared here.

Forgetful Makcik

I was eager to get home today. It's Friday!!! I was about 5 kilometres away from home when I realized I didn't have my purse with me. Oh oh... I left it in my office drawer. No wonder my handbag feels very light. During lunch, I transferred my purse to a small bag because I do not want to carry my handbag around. Forgot to transfer it to my handbag before I go back. Aiyyooo... this makcik... How come can forget one? I can call myself 'makcik'. Don't anyone else dare call me that ;)

Everything is in there. It contains my IC, driver's license, credit cards and flight ticket to Kuching tomorrow. I called office; thank God someone picked up the phone and that means someone is still in the office. Luckily I wasn't stopped along the way and asked to produce my IC or driver's license. Otherwise, who knows where I'll be spending the night tonight. If no one is in the office, someone will be cursing me if he/she has to return to office to let me in.

Despite having to make two trips to return home and unnecessary trip to office, I'm thankful I just left the purse in a locked drawer in the office. It could be worse.

Update:
With the foiled attempt to blow up planes in London, security at all airports will be strengthened including here. Hmmm... seems like I have to get to the airport a few hours early so as not to miss my flight.

How Honest is Your Smile?

Sometimes when I felt hurt or sad by remarks made during a conversation, I'd smile. It takes a lot of practice to do that without appearing awkward when you're face to face with the person making that remark. It gets a lot easier in email or chat. The smiley :) can be a big help. Then I can cry my hearts out in private coz like it or not crying is a good way to clean up the system.

I'd smile when I'm feeling nervous. Luckily I don't have stage fright when I have to give training or demo but I'd smile to make the participants feel at ease or feel I'm more approachable.

I'd smile when I don't want to agree or disagree. This mormally happens when I have an opinion but feels arguing about it is pointless. Normally happens with my mom or my boss hehehe...

I'd smile when I have no idea what to say. Malays have this weird habit of asking obvious questions like "tengah buat apa tu?" or "tengah makan ker?" when you can obviously see whatever they are doing. If you're approaching a group of people you know, you're kinda expected to ask that most obvious question or people would start thinking you are a snob. Normally I'd just smile.

I'd smile watching kids enjoying themselves, or upon seeing beautiful sceneries / flowers / butterflies / animals antics / sweet couples, when I'm day dreaming and many more reasons.

Do you think some of these smiles are dishonest smiles? Does it matter? It is an honest reaction to a certain situation even though smiling may not be an appropriate reaction to what I'm feeling inside.

The Single Guy vs The Married Guy

Sometimes when I'm bored, I'd chat on Ymsgr. Last time, I would never chat with a married guy. In my opinion their time is better spent with their family. But then, single guys or those pretending to be single only want to ask you out. So I thought a platonic virtual friendship with a married guy is better. They are honest with their status in the first place so surely a friendship is possible.

There is a possibility for me to meet the people I know from chatting but only if they are interesting enough and we have forged some kind of a friendship. To reach that level, there must be some common interest other than two bored people with nothing better to do so they try meeting each other to see if they can get un-bored together. Not many would take the effort of forging the friendship first. And some... sigh!

My Small Wish Came True

Today begins my 2 session, 4 days training. On the way to work I was thinking if only all the participants didn't come, then I can relax a little bit after a hectic schedule. I met a colleague on the lift and told her the same thing. She laughed and said stop dreaming.

After breakfast I went to the training room to discover only one participant has arrived. What happened to the rest? There is a little change on the date and memos have been sent out so it is not possible only one received it. The admin staff makes phone calls to the participants' office and most told us they thought the second memo sent was a duplicate so didn't bother reading it. Nothing is impossible. Anything could happen.

We have to ask the only participant who attended to return to her office and the 2 sessions, 4 days training have been rescheduled. For this week, I only have 1 session of 2 days training which is a huge relief for me. Soon all my colleagues got to know of my wish that I mentioned to the colleague in the lift and everyone started asking for Toto numbers hehehehe...

I told them if my wishes can come true, there are more important wishes that I wish would become true instead of this one. Anyhow, I'm grateful for any kind of wishes that do come true. Probably God is pitying me and giving me a day rest. Alhamdulillah. There is a 'menjawab' session with my boss in the evening. Luckily he didn't make too much fuss about it.

Few Thousand Words

People said a picture can speak a thousand words. I'm too exhausted to write a coherent entry so I hope these few photos will speak the words for me :)

33000 Feet Above Sea Level

At 33000 feet above the sea level, I felt like I was on a journey on a special land. The land of the cumulus nimbus where fairies can bounce on the fluffy white clouds, the cirrus sailing on the blue sky gently, the stratus like a Persian carpet inviting you to roll over it and bask under the glorious sky.

I wish I can capture all that but the photos taken couldn't do justice to the beautiful view of the clouds. 33000 feet is about 10km. It didn't sound a lot when we mention it in kilometers isn't it? My office is about 20km from my place. Half of that distance, put it on vertical... hmmm... The view down from that altitude is quite interesting too. I managed to capture some photos that look decent.

More on cloud types here.

Magnificent Sunrise

It is not often I can take photos of a beautiful sunrise. My apartment is facing west, the east side of my world is often blocked with high rise building or hills or cloudy morning or probably I didn't wake up early enough :) This is the first time I can capture sunrise with glorious orange and red hues. Not as beautiful as the real deal though.

Blue Sky and Sea

Just look at the photos. Enough said.

Many Faces of a Land 2

I was planning to add more photos from my Kuantan trip but I'm still quite tired and don't have the time to go through all the photos and process them. Maybe I'll put them in my Flickr photos when time permits.

The weather was not so good. It rained on my way to Kuantan and also drizzles on my way back. I extended my stay hoping to do some sight seeing, experience this and take wonderful photos of the beaches and fishing villages. Unfortunately, it rained the whole night and the morning was dreary. Things don't always turned out as planned and lately it has been that way most of the time. It is a good thing however that the chef is willing to cook the meal I ordered instead of the boring room service menu on my last night there.

When I reached Shahbandar jetty, I was hoping to see some foreign tourist lining up to join the river cruise. I was wrong. No one was there and my hope to ride the boat was dashed. That is one problem faced when you're travelling alone. Furthermore, it was Monday. I had to work on weekend so I had no choice about the day I choose for sightseeing. I could pay for the minimum no. of people so the cruise could go on but the thought of me alone on the river with the boat guy... not a good idea.

I had tons of prawns there :) No allergic reaction from the fresh prawns and I can't resist the fat, juicy, succulent prawns. Yummy... Unfortunately, no photos of the food. Can't wait long enough to take any photos of the food hehehe...
