Me, Inc.

I love this article from Oprah.com. I'll always read and re-read the article when I sometimes feel like the work is not fulfilling and change is required. When sometimes I'll keep asking why am I so busy, for what and for whom. I'm actually lucky enough to be doing an interesting job (most of the time) and there's nothing much to complain about. But sometimes, this discontented feeling will still creep up. Maybe my job is not that interesting to some people, or the pay is not good enough, but I've heard worst stories. So I'll keep telling myself how lucky I am again.

Back to the article, it mentioned that we have to look at ourself as an organization/a business entity called Me, Inc. We have to create our own business plan and make our career our life's work. We are the CEO of our career.

We must first identify where we are, and then identify where we want to be in 15-20 years time. Some people are lucky enough to have doors of opportunity opened for them. But for others, we have to work for what we want. Identify our valuable skills and other skills that is required in order for us to get to where we want to be in 15-20 years time. Then start acquiring the skills that we don't have. We can either go back to school, attend courses or buy related books.

Any CEO would also need the following:

  • A vision for the business

  • Financial skills

  • A marketing plan

  • The ability to manage and motivate others
