Perahu Dondang Sayang

The whole family went to Putrajaya yesterday (more details on Putrajaya can be found here and here). It was on my mom's insistence actually but I don't really mind as I can happily snap pics with my not so new toy by now. Luckily, the weather was generally OK. It got very cloudy sometimes but not so gloomy. The highlight of the day was the boat ride. Themed 'Perahu Dondang Sayang' (RM20 per adult for one trip), we were entertained with Dondang Sayang music along the way. If I was not busy snapping photos, I would have drifted to sleep lulled by the music, light wind caressing my face and the after effect of tomyam, rice, and coconut juice for lunch :)

Dondang Sayang is a Malaccan traditional music, a very famous form of entertainment in the olden days, especially during weddings. It is normally a duet where the two will be bantering (singing) in the form of 'pantun' (a special kind of poem) in rhythm with the music. It is also said the bantering can go on until the wee hours of morning, the old and young will be enjoying it and cheering for their favorite half of the duet when they give a good 'pantun'. I'm not sure of the position of 'Dondang Sayang' in Malaccan weddings now though. Anyone care to highlight? (More info on Dondang Sayang can be found here and here.)

Here's some photo from the 80+ pics taken yesterday. Click on the photo for larger image. All pics have been resized and optimized so as not to exceed 150KB.
